Why Higher Attitudes?
Life is meant to be amazing. All too often, however, we get caught up in the busy-ness of life and the whirlwind of responsibilities that come with family and career. We often feel like we have to choose between dreams and real life.
Julie and Tom Obenchain believe that God wants us to embrace our dreams. They believe that God wants our dreams to power our ‘real-life’ responsibilities, and that hope and faith and love can help us achieve all of the righteous desires of our hearts.
The Obenchains believe that harnessing the power of inspiration can bring enthusiasm back to life. If we don’t work to surround ourselves with uplifting things, it is easy to feel that a heaviness and even a darkness can begin to settle in.
Tom and Julie started Higher Attitudes to share uplifting thoughts that remind us just what is possible if we invite God into our lives in new ways or if we invite Him back if it has been a while since we’ve welcomed Him. Allowing God to be a part of each day often requires us to learn new ways of thinking, better ways. The Obenchains call these better ways “Higher Attitudes.”
You are invited to join Julie and Tom in lifting your thoughts, lifting your life, and stepping up to a life made possible through higher attitudes. Please enjoy the blogs and podcasts on this site and the many uplifting spiritually centered thoughts on the Higher Attitudes Facebook page. About Tom and Julie
Tom and Julie live in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the foot of Pikes Peak, one of Colorado’s more than 50 “14ers” or mountains rising more than 14,000 feet above sea level. No wonder they are inspired to reach for higher places. They have been married for more than 29 years and are the parents of five children.
Julie
Julie loves people. She is a teacher, passionate about teaching men, women, youth, and children to recognize and come to know the divine within themselves. She helps others break the hold of self-loathing and negative thinking about their own efforts. She is committed to helping couples, families and individuals heal and enhance their relationships.
She teaches others to understand expectations and perspective; how to see from the point of view of the other person. She loves seeing the light of confidence and hope shine in the eyes of someone experiencing the ah-hah moment of discovering a richer more meaningful life. She loves seeing transformation in relationships with self and others as they learn to love fully and receive healing.
Julie loves dabbling in various art forms, including watercolor, photography, silk painting, floral arranging, and probably some she has yet to explore.
The effects of light shining through or reflecting off glass, water or shiny things, gives her excited shivers. She likes to think of herself as the reflection or cast shadow of light and color. She is reflecting the light of God onto any within her realm of influence. Julie’s goal is to spread that light to the whole world, to cover the earth with love, healing, peace, hope, and joy.
Julie grew up in Cache Valley in northern Utah. She served a full-time welfare and proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Peru. She graduated from Utah State University in Logan, Utah with a degree in Communicative Disorders. She is the oldest of eleven children and the mother of five, four daughters and a son. Julie loves serving in the church and has spent many years teaching children, youth and adults. She currently serves as a stake self-reliance specialist.
Tom
Tom loves the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has changed his life. Over the years his hobbies have faded as he has discovered that what he wants to do most is share to gospel and its message of God’s love for His children with anyone looking for more light and truth.
Tom loves studying the scriptures and digging deeper into the meaning he finds there. He loves language and believes that we often limit our understanding of the gospel because we don’t see the full breadth and depth of what the word of God has to teach us.
Tom enjoys history and learning about the people of the world. He gets excited when he begins to see the new connections and ideas that his studies provide. Watch out. If you are nearby when he has something new to share, you may be looking for a polite exit route before he finishes.
Tom grew up in Wyoming, Colorado, and Louisiana. He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany. He graduated from Ricks College and then the University of Colorado at Denver with a degree in English Writing. He is the youngest of three children and the father of five. Tom currently serves in the church with Julie as a stake self-reliance specialist. In the past, he has served as an elders quorum president, young mens president, ward mission leader, high councilor, and bishop.
